A Desperate Need
We were approached by Westbury C of E Junior School to renovate their sensory room. When we visited the school to complete a site survey, we were saddened to see the state of the room that children were being sent to for relaxation, play or regulation. The room had been badly damaged and was not fit for purpose.
A Collaborative Design
After spending time with the school’s SENCO to learn about the children at the school and the requirements of the space; we decided to split the room in two, creating a ‘Sensory Room’ and a ‘Soft Room’.
The Sensory Room
The Sensory Room features a swing, light tube, interactive projector, padded seating and a hideaway den under the seating – designed for children to climb into and feel safe and secure. We installed wallpaper with a calming woodland theme which complimented the green tones in the upholstered wall pads, seating and artificial grass floor.
The Soft Room
The ‘Soft Room’ features artificial grass on the floor with shock pad underlay, padded seating with LED lighting and starry sky artwork on the walls. As with all our sensory rooms, the light settings can be adjusted to choose colours, patterns and light temperature.
The End Result
These rooms have made a positive and meaningful impact on students and staff at Westbury C of E School. At Tigerplay, it is our aim to produce the highest quality spaces that are perfectly tailored for the young people who will enjoy them.
