An Underwater Adventure Above London
R&F Properties entrusted Tigerplay with the task of transforming the 31st floor of the prestigious Nine Elms residential development in Battersea, London, into an extraordinary underwater-themed play experience. The outcome is a meticulously designed, one-of-a-kind play environment that mirrors the luxury and elegance of its surroundings while offering breathtaking views across the London skyline.
Immersive soft play structures
At the heart of the playroom are two captivating, custom-built structures: a cheerful yellow submarine and a majestic blue whale. These immersive elements seem to surface from a soft-play ocean floor, inviting children into a world of underwater adventure. Wrapped in colourful, tactile ‘coral’ features, the blue whale offers children the thrill of scaling a rope cargo net or bravely exploring its open mouth.
Playful Design With A Premium Finish
The centrepiece of the space is the bespoke yellow submarine, which floats in a sea of vibrant ball pool ‘bubbles’. Designed and constructed with HI-MACS for its smooth, high-quality finish and durability, the submarine boasts an array of handcrafted features. Children can enter and exit through climb-through portholes, crawl tunnels, and a gleaming stainless-steel tube slide. Every element; from the soft play panelled interior to the contoured, play-safe cladding, has been custom-designed to mirror the exterior and evoke the feel of a real, child-friendly deep-sea vessel.
Space to play, read and relax
Surrounding the main play features are thoughtfully designed breakout areas, including cosy teepees and beanbags where families can read, relax, and soak in the panoramic views. Older children can test their skills in a dynamic climbing area, while the continuous coral structures unify the space, enriching the aquatic atmosphere and encouraging exploration.
Overcoming Challenges to Achieve Seamless Delivery
This project posed considerable technical and logistical challenges, from installation on a high-rise floor to the precision required for bespoke fabrication. However, the result is a seamless fusion of playful design and premium finish, perfectly suited to the award-winning residential building it inhabits.
