A Mini Village Designed for Imaginative and Active Play

When Honeypot Nursery wanted to transform its play space, the brief was to create an environment that brought its distinctive brand to life while giving children opportunities for both imaginative and active play.

We were commissioned to design, manufacture and install a bespoke role play and active play space, taking inspiration from the Honeypot name and creating an engaging environment where children could explore, imagine and play in different ways.

The result is a colourful and characterful space that showcases how thoughtful nursery playroom design can combine imaginative role play, physical activity and a strong visual identity.

The Brief

Honeypot Nursery wanted a play space that would:
• Capture the nursery’s distinctive brand identity.
• Lean into the Honeypot theme.
• Encourage imaginative role play alongside active play.
• Provide an inspiring environment that children could enjoy in different ways.
• Stand up to the demands of a busy nursery environment.

The space needed to look fantastic, but it also needed to be practical, durable and designed around the way young children naturally play.

Our Approach: A Mini Village with a Beehive at Its Heart

Our nursery playroom design centred around the idea of creating a miniature village, giving children different areas to explore, interact with and incorporate into their imaginative games.

At the heart of the space is a striking beehive structure, providing an eye-catching focal point and bringing the Honeypot theme to life.

We used a colour palette inspired by the nursery’s brand colours, creating a cohesive environment that feels connected to the Honeypot identity while remaining bright, welcoming and exciting for children.

The village concept also provides plenty of scope for open-ended play. Children can create their own stories and games, meaning the space can become something different every time they use it.

By combining role play with physical activity, the nursery design brings together the imaginative qualities of a bespoke nursery playroom with the movement and exploration associated with an indoor soft playground.

The Result

The finished play space is unique, inspiring and built to withstand everyday nursery life.

Every element has been carefully considered to balance aesthetics, play value and durability. The installation has been engineered to stand up to the demands of a busy nursery environment, while creating an exciting setting that encourages children to play, explore and be active.

The flexible nature of the design means children can interact with the space differently each time. Imaginative play can develop naturally, while active play elements encourage movement, exploration and physical confidence.

The result is a versatile play environment where children are free to decide how they want to play — whether that’s creating imaginary stories in the village, exploring the beehive or enjoying more energetic physical play.

Standout Feature: Honeycomb Baby Area Wall Padding

One of the most distinctive details is the bespoke honeycomb wall padding in the baby area.

Stylish as well as functional, the honeycomb design reinforces the Honeypot theme while providing a practical padded surface for younger children.

It’s a perfect example of how considered nursery playroom design can incorporate functional play safety features without compromising on the overall aesthetic.
